The American Snuff Company |
|
The American Snuff Company’s roots go back over 200 years and predate the formation of the United States and was founded by Captain John Garrett of the Sixth Delaware Militia. After fighting the British in the revolutionary war, Garrett set up a snuff mill on red Clay Creek in Delaware. In 1870, the snuff industry was one of the country’s largest industries with Garrett’s snuff mill being one of the most popular. It was at this time that the brand Levi Garrett snuff was patented in the newly formed US Patent agency. In fact, the Levi Garrett brand was one of the first 10 patents to be issues and to this day is the longest, continually used trademark in the US. |
